A tropical climate predominates in Rio. Average temperatures are milder in August, averaging around 23 ºC. Historical data for the city in August shows a minimum temperature of 19 ºC and a maximum of 25ºC.

Mobile phone network coverage is available throughout Brazil and is relatively good in Rio de Janeiro.

The currency of Brazil is the Real.

For banknotes, the Real comes in denominations of R$1, R$2, R$5, R$10, R$20, R$50, R$100, and R$200. For coins, the Real comes in denominations of R$0.01, R$0.05, R$0.10, R$0.25, R$0.50, and R$1.

There are two families of Real, both for banknotes and coins. Banks are open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 4 pm. ATMs operate 24 hours a day. There are many currency exchange offices, banks, and ATMs throughout the city of Rio de Janeiro, including ATMs in hotels and shopping centers.

GETTING AROUND

There are many transportation options to help you get around Rio. At your hotel’s front desk, you can find tips for tours to the main tourist attractions: Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain Cable Car, Copacabana, Ipanema, Parque Lage, and the Museum of Tomorrow, among other landmarks of the wonderful city. Traffic in Rio can be heavy, especially on rainy days, causing congestion in various parts of the city.

The National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics (INTO) celebrated its 50th anniversary on September 28, 2023. INTO was established in 1973 to meet the growing demand for traumatology and orthopedic services in Brazil.

INTO is an important reference center for traumatology and orthopedics in Brazil. The Institute serves patients from across the country, providing high-complexity services such as bone, joint, and muscle reconstruction surgeries.

The institution is also a major center for education and research. INTO offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as training programs for healthcare professionals. Additionally, the Institute conducts innovative research in the field of traumatology and orthopedics.

INTO was recognized by the American magazine Newsweek as one of the world’s best hospitals specializing in orthopedics. The institution ranks 39th on the list, which includes 125 hospital units. A benchmark in the country, INTO is also a member of the International Society of Orthopaedic Centers (ISOC), which comprises the top 23 orthopedic centers in the world, making it the only Brazilian hospital participant.
