Symposium #4

EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH FOR BETTER SPINE CARE

Subject overview

Spine ailments are in the top conditions that are costly and leading to more years lived with disability. Advancement in spine care is vital and this can only be with support for excellence in research, development and innovation. High quality research informs better decision making and cost-effective care, hence, better health outcomes. Excellence in research, development and innovation requires interdisciplinary team effort including clinicians, scientists, researchers, data analysts, funders, decision makers, and other relevant disciplines or organizations. In this symposium we will shed light on the road to excellence in research for better spine care, with a focus on building capacity, research translation and research priorities and we call upon countries to put spine care high in their research agenda to help minimize cost and improve health of their communities.

Symposium Objective

1. To identify the current status of research in spine care.
2. To build the case to support excellence in research, development and innovation for better spine care.
3. To raise awareness about the pitfalls related to evidence translation in spine practice.
4. To identify the strategic objectives and priorities in research, development and innovation for spine care.

Topics Highlights

1. Building research capacity among clinicians (importance of research & innovation to advance spine practice)
2. Research translation in different culture and designing clinical trials in different cultures and settings.
